These stud earrings are set with old mine-cut diamonds, with an estimated weight of 0.42 and 0.43 carats. These diamonds have a 'warm' colour (circa K-L) and only minor inclusions which cannot be seen with the naked eye, but can be observed with a loupe (VS-SI).

From the early 18th century to the late 19th century, the old mine-cut was one of the most common diamond cuts used in jewellery.
You can recognize an old mine-cut diamond by its squarish, almost cushion-like shape and different proportions. They typically have a smaller table, a higher crown, and a little facet at the tip of the diamond known as the culet. As a result, an old mine-cut diamond has a very distinctive look and a very unique character.

These earrings are fitted with a curved hook, a feature often used in the 19th century. These hooks ensure the diamonds stay upright when worn and also prevent them from slipping off without the need for an additional closure.
