This silver negligee necklace is set with an oval and two pear-shaped hematites.
Négligée necklace, which were very popular in the early 20th Century, have a very typical design and can be recognized easily. They always feature a central pendant with two asymmetrical drops or tassels, which are often set with diamonds, but I have also seen them studded with sapphires, pearls, or rubies. This very bold and modern-looking hematite design is however the first one I have ever encountered!
The term 'négligée' refers to the fact that this type of necklace were deemed suitable to wear during the daytime, when you were not dressed formally yet. During the evening, a well-to-do lady would select a more substantial piece of diamond jewellery.
